This quote from Maya Angelou really speaks to me. When it comes to writing, most people seem to look at it like a task. As if it were something that needed to be accomplished. Whether that means writing a paper, scribbling notes, or even finishing a novel it usually turns into something tedious. For me, I like to look at writing in a more freeing and creative way. Writing is something that people take for granted. It is a creative outlet used to tell secrets of the mind, that people are too scared to otherwise share. We write to indulge in these foreign places inside our brains that we keep locked up. Too scared to knock on the door of our own imagination, scared of what people might think. We can discover new ideas and adventures that could only exist by using the simple pen and paper. To write is to create, create another reality. So next time you sit down with a pen don’t think “here we go again another paper to write”, instead turn the paper sideways so the lines are vertical and write a story that only makes sense to YOU. Nobody will know what’s happening up in that mind of yours until you share your fantastical imagination with the world. Really what I’m trying to say is to simply sing YOUR own song.
